Frontier Fun Center Hosts Tournaments

By Claudia J. Respess

Fernley’s Frontier Fun Center (FFC) was the place to be on Sunday, August 26. FFC hosted two bowling tournaments on Sunday. A Nine-Pin NO TAP Tournament started the morning off with a bang. Immediately following NO TAP, the NABI (National Amateur Bowlers Incorporated) went into action. Following the tournaments, FFC hosted a Winter League Sign-up meeting, involving many local league members.

FFC was delighted with the walk-in registrations for the NO TAP event. Unfortunately, the additional participation got things off to a late start. FFC looks forward to the next NO TAP event on September 30th and have taken steps to assure the event starts on time and that the prize funds are stronger. In a 9-Pin NO TAP Tournament, knocking down 9 pins counts as a strike. Participants bowl 5 games across 5 sets of lanes. Handicaps are based on 90% of 220.

September’s 9-Pin NO TAP Tournament will be based on a 2006 – 2007 book average. Games will run 2.50 per game, with $12.50 towards lineage and 12.50 towards the prize fund. Once sign-ups for this event exceed 60 players, the House (FFC), will add $100.00 to the prize fund.

Results of the August 26th NO TAP Tournament are as follows: Diane Street, 1584; Steve Tapia, 1489; Tim Klotz, 1447; Roger Milby, 1432; Jeanette Lee, 1415; Vern Street, 1408; Don Bullock, 1372; TJ Rowland, 1374; Deanna Whalen, 1372; and Frank Kalin, 1365.

NABI bowlers rotate between bowling centers in their region, twice a month. This league is appropriate for beginner to medium ability bowlers, giving each person exposure to tournament experience. As a relatively new property in the Fernley area, the Frontier Fun Center is proud to offer area residents an additional way to further their involvement in NABI activities. FFC also believes, by attracting such well-respected leagues, they are helping to strengthen the local economy.

Results of the August 26th NABI tournament are: Renee Steele, Al Snover, Roxanne Snover, and Tim Smith.

Special note: Renee Steele achieved her first sanctioned 300 game during the NABI Tournament. Steele’s milestone was also a first for the Center.
